What if Ned's dad does have the power and Ned died as a young child (too young to recall it) and his dad touched him to bring him back. Notice that his dad did not touch him when he dropped him off at boarding school. I agree, the dad will be back sometime. I also loved the "I'll be back" line from the dad.

Watch closer - Ned's dad does touch him when dropping Ned off at boarding school. But it's a very fun idea!
